Audience theory 2 - blog tasks

Create a new blogpost called 'Audience theory 2 - blog tasks' and answer the following questions:

1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? to extents i do agree but i do not agree aswell. media can influence people to do things such as violent behaviour as it glamours it to make it look good instead of bad.this makes them want to try it and see what effect it  has. On the other hand, it shows the negative sides of anti social behvaiour like gangs, bullying e.t.c and the pressure it has on the victims.

2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. GTA- steal cars  call of duty- shoot people/ join the army  film violence - beat people up

3) Research five examples of moral panic from the last 50 years. To what extent was the media responsible for these moral panics? Was the concern in society justified? How have things changed as a result of these moral panics?
9/11 people are scared are terrorists and have built stereotypes of people.   Ebola- the concern was justified as its a life threatening disease which can kill people. In 2014  12,000 victims and over 4,000 dead in Africa  Legal highs- this was a concern in society as these drugs were easy found in local shops and can have a bad impact on the human body.  Poison Halloween candy- this was a concern for parents in the society as the sweets which are given to children can harm them mentally and physically and its hard to identify which sweet is spiked and it takes away the joyful for children trick or treating by this threat.
4) Read this introduction to an academic paper on technopanics. What examples are given of technopanics that create fear in society?

5) How does the author suggest that technopanics should be addressed - rather than through government regulation?

6) Do you think the internet should be regulated? Should the government try and control what we can access online? to some extents i agree as certain things on the internet can mentally scar people asin the graphical images or things they see. also, it;s a big influence upon the youth to commit crimes as it can feed bad information into their brains. another reason is elderly men luring kids on games which should be stop and by regulating these games will stop these things from happening or the government should monitor these games to protect children from these bad things .

7) Apply Gerbner's cultivation theory to new and digital media. Is the internet creating a fearful population? Are we becoming desensitised to online threats, trolling and abuse?

8) Is heavy internet use something we should be worried about in society? How would you define 'heavy internet use'?  being on the internet for the majority of your day
