6) Why do enigma and action codes (Barthes) offer gratifications for audiences?
it makes the audience wonder why that has happened and why they need that certain object creating uncertainty. this makes them question the action or object.

7) Write a one-sentence summary of the four different types of TV narrative:
  • Episodic narrative (the series)- A story which is often resolved each episode so that audiences can jump onto watching the show wherever.
  • Overarching narrative (the serial)- This generally means the audience must be a regular viewer to be able top keep up with the story line.
  • Mixed narrative- for example friends have multiple conflicts and are being talked about but are often all solved by the end of episode or few.
  • Multi-strand overlapping narrative (soap narrative) - All narratives tell a different story which is aimed around the same group of people such as hollyoaks
